Election date:

October 21, 2019

Advance Poll Dates:

October 11, 2019;
October 12, 2019;
October 13, 2019; and
October 14, 2019

To vote in the federal election, you must:

  1. Be a Canadian citizen

  2. Be at least 18 years old on election day, October 21

  3. Prove your identity and address

ID Requirements:

Option 1: Show one of these pieces of ID

  • Your driver’s license

  • Any other card issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial/territorial or local) with your photo, name, and current address

Option 2: Show two pieces of ID

  • Both must have your name and at least one must have your current address.

    Examples:

    • voter information card and bank statement

    • utility bill and student ID card

Option 3: If you don’t have ID

You can still vote if you declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you.

The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address. A person can vouch for only one person (except in long-term care institutions).

TO APPLY TO BE ON THE INTERNATIONAL REGISTER OF ELECTORS YOU MUST:

  1. Be a Canadian citizen

  2. Be the age of 18 years of age or older on the polling day

INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR THE APPLICATION:

  1. One of the following pieces of ID:

    • Pages 2 and 3 of you Canadian passport

    • Your Canadian citizenship certificate or card

    • Your birth certificate, to show that you are born in Canada

  2. Your last address before leaving Canada (proof of address is not needed)
